Off all of the jewels of nature that we call flowers, my favorite is the Iris. To research this design, I took dozens of photographs of Bearded Iris blooming in a local garden. The larger image was fired in an electric kiln: the smaller image in a gas kiln. Depending upon the kiln environment, each resulting tile has a unique look. The larger tile's dimensions are approximately
