The clay model in it's early stage.
The background grid represents the square 4" field tiles that the client will purchase from a commercial source. The overall tree design will be 15" x 18", including an extruded handmade tile frame.
Here is the clay model just before a plaster mold was made of it. Sadly, after the plaster sets, the model is removed and during this process, destroyed. This mold took 30 lbs. of plaster and 20 lbs. of water! I will cast the design in one piece, remove it from the mold and then cut it into individual tiles. The center tree tile will measure 6" x 12", the surrounding tiles will measure 3" square.
